JC Caoile is a force to be reckoned with. In addition to being an amazing dancer, he has founded his own dance company, competed in two reality tv show competitions, and is committed to giving back to his community and making the world a better place. In 50 words or less, give us a short biography of yourself.
JC has been dancing for 15 years. He is trained in street style hip-hop including locking, waacking, popping, and housing as well as urban dance choreography. JC founded the Str8jacket Dance Company in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2012 under the values of growth, creativity, and community.
How did you get involved with World of Dance U-Jam?
Str8jacket has competed in World of Dance LA, Bay Area, and Championships for 2018 and 2019. We have also competed on NBC World of Dance Season 3. U-Jam was founded in the Bay Area and in 2014 they hosted U-Jam’s Best Dance Crew Competition, and Str8jacket participated.
What have been some of the highlights of your career?
Competing on America’s Got Talent season 12 and NBC’s World of Dance season 3.
Tell us about your new video, what inspired you? Talk a bit about the message of the video.
I wanted to represent the San Francisco Bay Area in this video and incorporated a lot of Bay Area moves into the piece.
What are some issues/causes that are important to you that you would like to promote?
Str8jacket is a huge advocate for behavioral health and the fight against climate change. Every year we participate in San Mateo County’s Mental Health Awareness Month. Recently we started a social media movement known as Change the Rhythm. You can find us on Instagram at @changetherhythm.
Do you have any upcoming projects in the works?
We are currently working on building our social media project, Change the Rhythm. The goal of the project is to get more dancers involved in battling climate change.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Videography, guitar, and dad jokes to the max!
Anything else you think our readers would like to know?
We have a tendency to glorify success, but I want people to recognize that a lot of sacrifice goes into it as well. Sometimes we need to be willing to make those sacrifices if we want to achieve our goals.
